Sign the petition to incorporate Block 31 in the porposal to keep oil underground in Yasuni national PDF Print E-mail
Block 31, which is also located in the heart of Ecuador's Yasuní national park, was untill recently licenced to be exploited by Petrobras. It was licitated in 1996, long before the proposal to keep to oil underground in ITT was born.
Block 31 has the same reasons for conservation as block 43, ITT (Ischpingo, Tambococha, Tiputini) and should therefore be incorporated into the Proposal Yasuní ITT, in effect giving more coherence to the project.

Last year, when the environmental license was given to Petrobras, President Correa justified it with the argument that it was a matter of an ancient contract that should be respected for legal reasons.
Today, this argument does not count anymore and it is not justified to exploit the oil of this block.

Block 31 is a threat to the credibility of the proposal to save the Yasuní, given that it is a major part of the National Park.
For governments, organizations, and potential donors, the region of the Yasuní and the presence of this block would be incomprehensible.

The incorporation of these reserves in the model of the Yasuní should not implicate significant changes in the total compensation, but instead, it will be a sign of coherence with the proposal to preserve the Yasuní and respect the people in voluntary isolation.

Sign the petition to be sent to the president of Ecuador to incorporate Bloc 31 in the proposal to keep oil underground.
