A tribunal which aimed at discussing justice with reference to global warming, took place in Bogotá, Colombia, on October 18, and 19. The jury of the Climate Justice Tribunal was represented by peasant, indigenous and afro-descendant delegates. Scholars and environmentalists were also present. A representative of PCN was judge, and the defense and prosecutor were represented by delegates of several organizations of Colombia.

Before the opening of the Tribunal, a communiqué issued by the environmentalist organization CENSAT Agua Viva- Friends of the Earth Colombia, stated the importance of climate justice. " On one side we have the victims, and on the other side we have a few who, due to their technological and economical position, were able to exploit the benefits, leaving the victims aside. We shouldn´t blame humankind as a whole for climate change, we should point out the responsible people, the ones who have a certain kind of life related to consumerism: the population of the industralized countries. Climate justice means to recognize the responsible people. It means to compensate the damages and to protect the rights of the poorest communities".

In the communiqué, they stated that the main purpose of the Tribunal was to include in the social movement´s agenda, the conflicts which are a result of climate change, and its effects on society. They also aim at "strengthening the fight for environmental justice, especially climate justice, and share proposals against climate crisis".

After listening to the arguments and considering the seriousness of climate change, the veredict was: "The jury recommends the judge to sentence the people responsible for local and global climate change to recognize and compensate the environmental and social debt, to restore the destroyed areas, to respect the peoples´s sovereignty, to accept the right of the communities to a free and informed consent, to accept the political, social and cultural rights of the peoples, to pay taxes which haven´t been paid, to close down the contaminating processes, to respect traditional cultures, to redistribute the riches and ecosystems, and condemn them to burn in hell. And to reverse the hell which they turned the world into", concluded.

In addition, the jury recommended to promote the joining of communitary, popular and environmentalist organizations. They also proposed to create monitoring groups to control the climate and monoculture expansion phenomena, to promote sustaintability and to call for international solidarity, among other things.
